"Adventure is out there!" -Up
I saw Disney/Pixar's UP this morning, which is all about an older man's search for adventure. It got me really excited about MY upcoming adventure! I'm sure it will be. I am getting nervous about not knowing anyone, but I'm also excited to meet new people! I'm so excited to master all these forms of transportation, and I'm glad I've already had lots of practice flying this year. I can't wait for the new scenery, the new food, and the new shopping! I'm nervous about not being able to communicate, but I'm excited to be immersed in the language. I hope it will help me become more confident in what I already know, and learn so so much more.
I'm finally all packed! After my first attempt at packing ended in my suitcase weighting 62 lbs, I did some eliminating and some rearranging. I now have one suitcase, one extra large purse, and one backpack! I am usually not a very good packer : ) I've already faced one speedbump. My flight home is from Bonn to London to Chicago to Kansas City, so I was hoping to skip the very first leg and catch my plane in London. Unfortunately, the airlines don't let you do this. Luckily I realized this before leaving, and was able to make arrangements. I was able to book a flight from London to Bonn in the morning of the same day my flight leaves Bonn to London. The bad news is I'll be giving up a morning in London to fly to Bonn and then back to London, but the good news is I made sure I can get home! Also, I will be very happy if this is the only speedbump I face.
I booked my hotel in Bonn for the night of June 1, because I can't check into the Instutit until June 2. The staff seems extremely friendly, and they have been emailing me in English so I know they will be helpful.
Everything else seems all ready to go! Mom called AT&T, and I can receive unlimited text messages for free, but it costs 50 cents to respond. We also did some research on the closest Catholic church in the area so I can go to Mass. We found out that there's an English speaking Catholic community in the area, so if I've reached my fill of German and just need to breathe for an hour with English I can attend Mass in English. Although, I am excited to be able to go to Mass in German because I already know what's going on.
So everything's all set for my flight to leave at 1:30 tomorrow, head to Chicago, fly to Paris, and then onto Cologne (Köln)!
Aufwiedersehen! (Until I see you again!)
