What I Read in August
Hi, all!
August has been a slower month, with a quick trip up to Detroit but not too much travel beyond that. We did get to visit a fun sunflower field on our way back. Maisie loves "yellow flowers" so it was fun to visit a cut-your-own-flower field.
We also celebrated a wedding for one of my very best friends, and it was a blast to celebrate with everyone!
Reading-wise, it was a month of romance for the most part, which helped fuel the relaxation.

While Justice Sleeps by Stacy Abrams: Ever since I heard all the work Stacy Abrams did to flip Georgia to Blue - and that she is also an author - I've been wanting to read one of her books. Well, I FINALLY got around to it! Not my typical genre, although I do like action thrillers, so it was fun to read. (I also ran out of time on Libby but was able to find a used copy at Open Books!) Would recommend!

Expiration Dates by Rebecca Serle: This one had a fun, outside-of-reality premise and took an unexpected turn for the more serious as the book progressed. An interesting take on what role we have in our own fate. Would recommend!

Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez: Brian got me Just for the Summer for Mother's Day, so I'm making my way backwards through this connected-but-not-necessarily-sequential series. This one focused on an older demographic and the tension between small town and cities. A fun read - would recommend!

Emma of 83rd Street by Amelia Bellezza and Emily Harding: A modern retelling of Jane Austen's Emma (which I still haven't read, actually! Add to the TBR...). Very cute, and a great retelling with a slow build of tension throughout the book. Would recommend!

One Star Romance by Laura Hankin: I tore through this book! I'm admittedly a sucker for books who glamorize writers, so that helped. The character development was extremely strong, accelerated by jumps in time throughout the book. Would recommend!
Outside of reading, I was able to build a lot of momentum for Poppy's Paints this month, and I'm super excited for some upcoming events we have coming up:
- September 14: Making a Candy Jar at Candycopia
- October 15: Virtual Book & Craft Club reading The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston
- October 18: In Person Book & Craft Club at The Book Cellar reading The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston
- October 26: Ghost Handprint Ornament at Bake (signup coming soon!)
- November 9: Mom's Night Out Mama Sweatshirt at Lush (signup coming soon!)
