What I Read in October

October was jam packed, and we made sure to do all the things to celebrate Halloween! We did lots of activities like apple orchards and a pumpkin patch, we painted and carved a pumpkin, we made lots of fun Halloween-themed meals and desserts, and of course did our fair share of crafting. I'm thinking about launching a Poppy's Paints newsletter with this type of content - a roundup of the fun things I've found online! Be on the lookout if this sounds interesting to you - I'm still figuring it all out!

I also am (finally!) starting a new job on Monday, which I'm very excited about. It will be 20 hours a week, and Maisie will be home with me on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I'm very excited to get back into the swing of things.

Back to the seasonal activities, Poppy's Paints had two very fun book clubs - one virtual and one in person. So much fun, that we're going to continue meeting every other month! Preview of what's to come:

Here are the details if you're interested in joining us - you can either sign up for a subscription / recurring registration, or you can sign up for each individual month: https://www.poppyspaints.com/poppys-paints-book-club

The Dead Romantics: A GMA Book Club Pick (a Novel) - Poston, Ashley

The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston: We read this book for our first Poppy's Paints book club. This was a reread for me, and I still loved it as much as the first time. I forgot how sad it is! Would recommend!

The Pumpkin Spice Café - Gilmore, Laurie

The Pumpkin Spice Cafe by Laurie Gilmore: This was a very fun Hallmark movie-type romance. Not a lot of stress, and a cute seasonal story. Would recommend! (There are a few more in this series, including a Christmas one, which looks cute as well!)

Expecting Better: Why the Conventional Pregnancy Wisdom Is Wrong--And What You Really Need to Know - Oster, Emily

Expecting Better by Emily Oster: I follow Emily on Instagram and appreciate her panic-reducing approach to parenting. Burying the lead, but we have a little one on the way, coming in March, so I decided to read this to brush up on all things pregnancy. Would recommend!

Atonement

Atonement by Ian McEwan: A few friends and I purchased season tickets to the ballet, and this was the ballet this month. I was very glad to have read it before going to see the show so that I could follow along. It's an interesting story that explores the role of stories in our lives, who gets to tell those stories, and what is considered truth. I found it to be a slower read, but great for discussion with others. Would recommend!

Wedding People

The Wedding People by Alison Espach: This came highly recommended by a couple of book bloggers that I followed, and with great reason. I loved this book - one of my favorites of the year. It follows a woman who just went through a divorce who goes on vacation to get away...and ends up in a hotel resort where the only other guests are attending a wedding. Fantastic and dynamic characters. Would recommend!

xoxo,

Emma
