What I Read in February and March

It has been a crazy couple of months over here, welcoming a new baby and planning to move! February I hardly ready ANYTHING, and then things really picked up in March. And now, I have lots of downtime with contact naps and overnight feedings with some good books to keep me company. If you're looking for light-hearted romcoms, that is most of what I read these past two months!

Is She Really Going Out with Him

Is She Really Going Out With Him by Sophie Cousens: A very fun romcom about a journalist whose kids set her up on dates. Plus I found out the editor is a friend of a friend! Would recommend!

Husbands

Husbands by Holly Gramazio: A fantastic realism story about a woman who sees how her life would have changed had she married a variety of different husbands. An interesting look at how the company we keep influences who we are. For me, this one had a slightly slow pace, but would recommend!

Rom-Commers

The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center: I sped through this one! Another classic romcom, with a heroine named Emma! We all know I love a good story about writers, and this is one. I need to do a rewatch of It Happened One Night as is recommended in the book. Would recommend!

Yours Truly

Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez: I'm a big Abby Jimenez fan, both of her books and of her personally. I found out she writes most of her novels...on her phone! Wild! A fun fake dating trope. Would recommend!

Power Pause

The Power Pause by Neha Ruch: As I'm trying to figure out what work will look like post-parental leave, I picked up this book for some inspiration. I really liked some of the advice in here about finding your rhythms/routines in your day - and figuring out what you want it to look like. I also liked that there are some concrete exercises in here (that, of course, I still need to do...) I would recommend for any working parents of young children - whether planning to stay full time or explore a more part-time schedule.

Outlawed

Outlawed by Anna North: Our April-Turned-May Poppy's Paints book club pick. It is a Reese Witherspoon pick, which I often like. Not the romcom like many of the others these couple of months. A historical fiction set in the Wild West times, it's a story about the role of women, gender norms, and chosen family. Would recommend! (And of course - come read with us!)

Spark of Light

Spark of Light by Jody Picoult: Last but not least, an audiobook that I started waaaay back in January and finally finished. A heavy story about a shooting at an abortion clinic. Sadly, one of the storylines resonated too closely with current events in Georgia, where a woman was arrested after having a miscarriage. A critical look at both gun and abortion politics in our country today. Would recommend.

xoxo,

Emma
