Ich denke auf Deutsch! I think in German!
Hallo! I'm a little less culture shocked today than yesterday, which is very good! Yesterday after class I went on a run around a park that's right across the street and through the shops that are right beyond the park. I looked a little out of place, because I don't think people usually run for the sake of running much here. And I think I looked especially out of place in my American T-shirt and my hot pink nike running shoes. At one point I was at a stop light, but I was marching in place to keep my heart rate up. A young boy, probably 5 or so, was also stopped with his dad. He kept looking at me, obviously think "What the heck is she doing??" and then started marching in place just like me. I don't know if he was imitating or mocking me, but I think i'll go with the first. When I got back to my room, my roommate said I'm a "super exerciser". Hah! At least I have one person fooled!
Later last night my roommate and the two girls who live next door and I went downstairs to work on some homework. My roommate's not in my same class, but the two girls next door are. Sofia is from Thailand, and Naama is from Israel. It's good that we can do homework together.
In a few minutes I'm heading out to go on a walking tour of Bad Godesberg, the "suburb" of Bonn in which the Goethe-Instutit is. It was arranged by the Goethe-Instutit. Later tonight after our homework (which is minimal) the girls I have been hanging out with and a few other people are going to relax at a bar, so hopefully that should be fun! Tomorrow we have an optional tour of Bonn, and Saturday we have an optional tour of Köln, so hopefully I'll go on both!
One of the ladies in my class is from Mexico, and she told me that she goes the Mass at the English speaking community on Sundays. She said it's really easy to get to the church by using the bus. She also said that she takes yoga twice a week in Bonn, but that she heard there's another studio in Bad Godesberg, so we might try to go to a class or two together!
My class is going well. It's a lot of speaking and interacting, which is what I was hoping for. Since I learned all of my grammar so quickly in high school, I've forgotten a lot. This is very good practice, and is reteaching me quite a few of the rules. Sometimes I'm afraid my class is too easy because I can understand everything going on, but I think that's just because my classes this year were too high of a level. I think I'm good where I'm at, because I can understand everything AND I'm still learning a lot. I'm even starting to think in German sometimes. Well, broken German. I need to work on my vocabulary. The other good thing is that I brought "Der Vorleser", which is German book that was just made into the movie "The Reader" with Kate Winslet. We read it in class and then saw the movie, but I can understand it much better now when I read it. I have spare time, so I use some of it to read that book, which is very helpful. Hopefully when I finish that one I can read Harry Potter "auf Deutsch"!
Also, we're hoping to rent some movies in German so we can practice listening. The other girls were saying they want to watch Finding Nemo! My favorite!
Mr. D - I'll do my best to find you some manpris. My roommate says they're very popular in Rhode Island.
Liebe von Bonn!

Emma--Hilarious that the little boy at the stoplight was imitating you! Too funny! Sounds like you are meeting a lot of people and taking advantage of all there is to do there, too! Can't wait for your next blog!
